UKStaff.co.uk, the new IT recruitment firm, is utilising new ‘Ultra Thin Client Computing’ to replace standard desktop PCs in a bid to generate a staggering 85% reduction in CO2 emissions. This innovative desktop technology, which operates on incredibly low power consumption, will save around 10 metric tonnes of CO2 from entering the environment in its first year of use alone.

Carbon emissions from computing are now equivalent those of aviation, according to new research to be published by environmental campaign group Global Action Plan. The UK government is committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 34% by 2020 and Azmat Mohammed, chief executive of UKStaff.co.uk, is ensuring UKStaff.co.uk contributes to that saving.

Azmat Mohammed, commented: “Our use of this technology shows our commitment to the environment and future generations, while illustrating the potential of this new wave of carbon efficient computing. Added to that, we will also cut our energy bills by 50% and our IT support bills by 90%, so I can’t see a downside to taking this route. I sincerely hope other companies consider doing the same.” The thin client hardware and operating software is by Sun Microsystems, with additional energy efficiency software, installation and consultancy from ID Interactive.
